Reproduced from Godey's Ladies' Book. True period version of gown worn in production of Beauty and the Beast. Bottom of skirt formed of many flounces. Low corsage bodice with short sleeves. Over skirt is drawn up in large flounces and held in place by bows and ribbons. Incl. sizes 18-3X.

Ashton, c. 1862

Peterson’s Magazine. Made of striped cloth for a tailored look. 2-piece dress, great for walking or sea side. Pointed, vest-like jacket front, finished with self piping. Matching tassels & covered buttons trim the cuffs & front hem.  Incl. sizes 18-3X.

Generous Betty, c. 1856-57 

A basic ball gown design with Grecian corsage and laced or hooked back closure. Lends itself to trimmings to please anyone who desires a tailored or highly decorated gown. Works well as a dinner or reception dress as well. This style was worn into the 1860's and during the Civil War.

Generous Leigh, c. 1859

Original in Royal Ontario Museum U. of Toronto. This dress demonstrates the popularity of wide skirts at the time. This ball gown has flat pleats, ornamental lacing at the back, front hook closures and fashionable wide short sleeves over detachable pagoda sleeves, ornamented with small buttons. The bodice & skirt are fully lined.

Generous Vivien, c. 1863

Originally a riding habit, it was modified into a walking dress. May be used as riding habit by adding 18 inches+ to skirt length, eliminating hoop & adding trousers for tailored riding habit.

Generous Zouave Set, c. 1860

Peterson's Magazine. Original house dress made of nankeen-colored foulard. The skirt has a narrow bias band around the bottom edged with white. The belt is pointed, braided and edged with white. Over the low body is worn a high white body of jaconet.

Generous Joan, c. 1860

This could be considered a basic style of house/visiting dress for 1860's. The pagoda sleeve isn’t quite over and originals are seen trimmed with fringe in a circular or "V" pattern on the bodice (jacket) and as decoration on the wide pagoda sleeves. It also lends itself for use with tartans, as well.

Features a gored skirt, new for that year. Bodice is finished with bias & piping around the waist and hand sewn to skirt with front opening in both. A great at-home dress.

Generous Harriet Ann, c. 1857-58

Original brown, gold, rust and peacock blue silk taffeta plaid dress in the TCS collection. Dated using CDV’s and museum originals. The bodice of this day dress is finished and hand-sewn to the cartridge-pleated skirt. Very wide 2-piece pagoda sleeve with decorative third piece that hides the seam (all are trimmed with silk fringe). Harriet has made several reproductions and has sold them all except the burgundy red with color photos. Convinced by her assistants to keep this one and name the pattern after her, this, along with the original dress, continue in her collection.

Generous Pamela, c. 1861

The original dress was made of pale pink and white striped gauze fabric, accented with white ribbons and flounce. The original petticoat was a combination of cotton with fancy dress fabric in the front only.

This pattern is taken from an original rural work dress in the TCS collection. The style is the simplest and most basic form of mid-Victorian dress.

Pattern taken from CDV and original in private collection of Joan Young. Photo of owner modeling the dress is included with directions. Brown wool/silk with small bouquets of flowers, trimmed with velvet ribbon.
Also can be used by the generous size woman looking to create the Princess or Mary Anne dresses shown.

Reproduced from Godey's Ladies' Book. Dress made of crepe, over silk. Each puffed breadth held in place by 2 tongue-shaped ruches. Hem edge trimmed plaited ruche of ribbon. Grecian waist, shell-shaped sleeves and ornamented with sprays of roses and foliage.
