Original description from Frank Leslie's Magazine: "This Mexican mantle has a peculiar cut, in half pyramidal points in front to the side and at back where it terminates in one large piece. Trim is embroidered silk." This pattern has a looser, traditional fit than our 59-L Fitted Coat.

Merino Zouave, c. 1860

Made of cloth or merino, and can be worn with any style of skirt. Hip length paletot. When interlined with armo wool, this is a very warm outer garment.

Civil War Jacket, c. 1862 

Semi-fitted, hip-length outer garment with side back openings and pleated center back to accommodate the hoop. Similar pleated treatment of the back sleeve at the hem provides added interest. Passementerie trim may be added, to suit the wearer. Incl. sizes ML.

Polka Jacket, c.1861

Lined jacket may be inter-lined and quilted for extra warmth. The original was trimmed with rabbit fur to simulate ermine. The lower sleeve is detachable.

Cloak, c.1860's

Original cloak used fine white cashmere. This cloak is hooded and should be lined with silk. Hook and eye fastening.

Fall Mantle, c.1861

Over-piece mimics a shawl. The main cloth is usually a wool/silk blend with bias cut silk tartan trim. The uniqueness of this pattern is the insertion of a faux sleeve to give shaping to the mantle. One size.

Harper's Fichu, c.1858

Original was a combination of lace and ribbon with a heading of rose-colored lace, and a pink transparent border. A series of ribbons traverse the body.
